Small Town Tribute
Everyday when I get up, and every night when I lay down, I say a prayer for our Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and at the Horn of Africa. Whatever your view on the War, think about those human beings over there, away from all they know, all they love, for whatever reason, they are there, and we are safe at home. I recently won a book in a writing contest about the War. I really am very passionate about it. The book is called "A Soldiers Portfolio-THIS IS OUR WAR!". It is a great book. Our soldiers, themselves, took every picture, and five of them wrote stories. I cannot tell you how gripping it is. The pictures are as real as it gets. They tell you just how it is, and then they show you. You will learn a different way of looking at the War. Know by looking at their own personal pictures. It is hardbound, and it is an asset to any library. You will see the War through their eyes. And they are so real, so human in their comments. I cannot tell you enough. I hosted a "Tribute to Troops/911 Freedom Walk" in our town, on 911 to raise the awareness level of how much our soldiers need. And how we can help. My God, the permanent head injuries from the roadside bombs is unbelievable. If you could take a look at the Department of Defense sight, you will learn a lot. They have many links, and you will be surprised at what you learn. And proud, and probably made a little sad, or a lot. Our town did very well, but they need you. Here is a little poem I wrote for the men who are on the "Watch". Even as we type away at our keyboards, they are on the ground, in the air, on the waterways, everywhere they can be. And they, like our Veterans, should be honored. If you go to www.Operation Helmet, you will learn some very disturbing facts. And if you give this year to anything, give here. Once you read, you will understand, and the validity of the site, can be checked on the Department of Defense site. Remember, we are here, typing. They are there, facing death every day. For me and You. Thanks all. EKB
